How much flax seed do you feed?

I ground up golder and brown flax seeds today to add with whole, rolled oats. I gave about 1/2 cup of flax mixed with oats, to each of the horses. How much do you usually give them and how often?

I feed 1 cup whole flax seeds every morning with a ration balancer.

I feed 1/3 cup of whole flax seeds in a mash.

I don't mean to steal, but has anyone had problems feeding Flax when it's unboiled? I"ve fed it dry but apparently you're not supposed to because they can't digest the husks, according to Pony Club anyways.

    Haven't had a problem.

You are supposed to grind it before feeding or most of it passes through undigested, but I have eaten whole flaxseed myself and it tends to emit a sort of goey slippery substance even with the hulls on, so as far as lubricating the stomach, they seem to do okay there! the horse gets more benefits if it is ground though.

When I feed the ground stuff, I give about 1/4 cup a day. When I fed it whole, I gave about a half cup per feeding.

I feed 1 cup whole flax seed with the RB, added into some soaked beet pulp so that the flax sticks to the feed and gets into the horse. The mini gets a fraction of that.

So far I've fed 1/4 - 1/2 cup / day with oats (estimated, have to get an actual measuring cup) for about 4 days now, and their poop seems to be much looser, almost diarrhea like and more yellow. Should I cut back on it? Or will their system adjust to it in the next week or so?
