We shave the whites on the legs and than wash. Shave about a week before so the hair doesn't look fresh shaved.

Baby wipes are my best friends at a horse show. My horse gets the galloping poops at a show..SO I usually have to wipe his bum. Yeah that is gross.

Leave kaiser in a field, and he still comes in shiny

bahahaaaa

In summer Im lazy, and just quickly flick the horses over with a big old dandy brush, pick out their feet and leave manes and tails.. Until the night before a show...

Where everyone gets a bath and wrapped up

in winter, im still lazy, and put rugs on

I have used a pet grooming mitt on my horses before with wonderful results, they look like this -

They are actually designed for shedding dogs and cats (and work wonders for picking hair up off carpet!) but I like to use them on my horses' summer coats in place of a curry. They are also good for shedding out the winter hair. My horses are pasture kept but I always get comments about how shiny they are. And of course daily grooming; you can't expect to only brush once a week and have a shiny horse. Unless you're one of those lucky people

I've been using plain old baby shampoo to wash them since horse products are so expensive. I don't wash very often though because it can dry out the coat.

And a bit of MTG goes a long way for tangle or dry manes and tails. I only have one issue with it; I put some at the base of Sawyer's mane and now he has big black and gray spots from dirt sticking to the oil . . .

i bathe in EZ-All and let it soak and then rinse. Then I was mane and tail with, ironically, mane and tail shampoo. Then I condition with mane and tail conditioner. I rinse that out and then add a small amount of cowboy magic.--> that stuff works wonders!!! I love it.....After they all dry I brush them with a body brush. I comb their mane and tail out and then I usually braid. Depends on my mood, then fly spray and thats it..unless it is winter, then they will get a blanket.

This is my ultimate secret weapon:

It will get all the dirt out of the dirtiest horse, and more importantly, it will get every drop of shampoo out - even if you overdid it with the Orvus! - with less water use because it's currying at the same time. I love that thing and it only costs about 2 bucks. It's a purchase you WON'T regret.

Other than that.....I like Orvus shampoo, even on the white horses it gets them squeaky clean without dying my hands blue. A little goes a long way so I feel like I'm saving money somehow.

A lot of people wash their horses the day before the show and keep them in a stall overnight. Instead, I just wash their mane and tail very thouroughly the day before and wash them before I leave for the showgrounds,. This way they stay cool in the triler and dry faster. Braid and brush when you get there.

I alternate mtg and olive oil on my horses hooves everyday about a week before shows. It gets them in great condition and makes it a hundred times easier to clean out deep hoof stains (if you've got white hooves) I also carry around fabric softener sheets to shows. They pick up stray dirt and dust from the coat in a jif and smell nice too. Just remember to throw them away in a covered garbage can.. they could be fatal if ingested as they're made out of fiberglass.

I also use shine serum made for humans on mane and tail and the skin around eyes, nostrils, muzzle. It adds just a little sheen, not that ridiculous high gloss wet looking shine you see on some compeditors. That just looks weird to me.

Nothing weird here...I start with a good diet...and usually add Farnam Vita Plus and Super 14 to the diet too.

Then I use the Ultra Grooming products: http://www.sstack.com/jump.jsp?itemI...16&iSubCat=459

pour a small line of mtg on their hooves (at the top so it soaks in and goes down to the base) every few days for a week before the show.. it really adds a natural shine and you don't have to apply hoof dressing. Also, load on the showsheen to manes and tails.
