1. To get manes and tails white, I put 2 cups of 20 Mule Team Borax in a gallon of warm water, and soak the mane or tail in it. I wait 5 to ten minutes, then add either a whitening shampoo, Wisk liquid laundry detergent, or Tresseme shampoo. I put about 100 hairs or so in between my hands at a time and rub the hair between them like Mr. Miagi on The Karati Kid. I rinse after the entire mane or tail is done. The trick is in the rubbing, and leaving the Borax in when you add the shampoo. To keep my horses clean when I can't bathe them, I use a dry/vac with a curry attatchment. To make hair grow, Equyys Coat rebuilder, or Preparation H. When I bathe, I use the EQ Solutions system. It gets to the roots of the mane and tail better than anything. To strengthen hooves- Formaldahyde To keep my manes and tails soft, Baby Lotion in small quantities To keep from rubbing tails, Listerine, or Vet wrap. Getting tails in the best condition sshhhh!!! 1 part Equyys Coat rebuilder to two parts Baby oil. Soak tail, braid, and bag. Wash out every 3 days, and re-apply. Getting hoof Black off of socks-- There is a towel that I buy at Auto Zone that feels as if it would take lint off of anything. This towel wipes away dry hoof black, and works great as a rub cloth. I may think of a few more.

Oh, one more. When you get those thick mud balls that dry like concrete in the mane and tail, you can remove them by smashing them with pliers and running water over them. Ondo the knot one hair at a time.

| Senior Member+ | I wash my horses with Orvus shampoo for everything, it makes the coat and tail super soft. Then I put ShowSheen in the tail and comb it out. I also have this fluffy mitt thing that I run over my horses after they're all brushed, gets all the little leftover dusties off and really makes them shine |

I dunno if they are really secrets but eh first thing to make them look good is having them be healthy. If they are healthy their coat will be too. Natural brushes are the best for bringing up natural oils in the coat to make them shine Hoof Maker to keep hooves moisterized for showing a little vasline one the muzzle around the eyes and ears helps make points stick out on pointed horses. and the Man-O-War shampoo makes them uber soft and shiney

This past summer (bfore I owned my quarter horse) she stayed in a lot...a very dusty lot. I gave her a conditioning bath approximately once a week, and it seemed to help her coat alot! Now that she's in a stall for about half the day, her coat doesn't get so dusty...but for some reason I still groom her like crazy! I also use conditioning coat spray when I am unable to give baths.
