Red face YOUR excercises

It has been a while since I've done a lot of riding, and Im finding out I am definitally out of shape for it!
Are there things you do to fine tune both your body and skills without riding (like in the evening while I am at home)
I wasnt sure where to put this, it has more to do with me than the horses, but I know I want to get to be a better rider for them too!

I saw this exercise on a Pilates video. It is wonderful for developing core strength (and trims up the waistline too, added bonus ). Lie flat on the floor. Clasp your hands behind your head and lift your feet six inches off the ground (straight legs right now). Curl up like you are doing a crunch, except pull your left leg in and touch or try to touch your right elbow to your left knee. Uncurl, but don't flop back on the floor, and repeat the opposite sides. It's just a crunch with a bit of rotation in it, but when you are doing it right it doesn't take many to really FEEL it working on your abs. I do 10 or 20 every evening before I lie back in bed to read a book.

Squats. Definitely squats. Wide-stance. Toes pointed out. Keep your back straight and chin up. They will give you an amazing butt.

Oh, are we talking about riding? Well, the amazing butt is kind of a side-benefit.

Also, stretch your legs out. Touch your toes, etc. The hamstrings get tight from riding and that can cause lower back pain- keeping them flexible will keep you opened up.

How can you ride in order to make your horse's job easier for them?
