Lightbulb Young hot horse....help.

my friend has a young 4 year old quater horse, he does jumpers and hunters, mostly jumpers though. he is a little crazy sometimes and hard to control....and doesnt like to stop on the aids, and wont respond correctly on the aids. he wont take the bit into contact and be supple and her biggest prolem is trying to get the horse to relax. is there any exercises or advice that you have that can help her with her horse? thanks...

Start over from the ground up. Don't jump him until you have him soft and listening to you. There is not one exercise that will accomplish this, he need good consistant training!

yes much ground work first...he has a "hard mouth" doesnt take acceptance of the bit, she uses a stronger bit on him, and he just locks his head and wont accept any aids because he is fighting too much with his mouth and bit...we have tried many things but will do MUCHH MUCHH MUCHH ground work, thanks for the posts!

I agree with others and start incorporating more dressage. It can be a great tool at getting a horse relaxed...once that has gotten steady incorporate a jump at a time. Jumping is just dressage with speed bumps. Also keep in mind that not every horse wants to be a hunter. If it becomes a huge battle to get the horse to become a hunter...i'm not sure it would be worth it if the horse is happier doing jumpers, but respecting the bit and the aids is a necessity for both.
