yellow tail

well my mare has had a slight problem lifting her tail the last few weeks (it has been checked by the vet and does not effect her health) now her gorgeous white and black, grey, flaxen tail is yellow. Tell me how can I remove that horrid color from her tail very quickly (within a couple hours)

I've always had great success with Oxy Clean -- for super yellow tails Tide Color Safe + Oxy Clean -- rinse well and condition well.

Also try to keep it in a tail bag when you do get it cleaned. They really help.

I had a problem with my Paly gelding and diarreah a couple of years ago. It almost was ruining his tail. I had to use the bluing shampoo on it every day. Finally I started bagging it and only had to clean it like once a week or so...

I would not use Tide. Its for clothes and needs to be for clothes and it will dry the snot out of your horses tail. Oxyclean might actually work better and definatly deep condition it or after washing put in a leave on conditioner, let it dry and put up in a tail bag or tie it off with a peice of flannel or ribbon or something of that nature to help kep the tail feeling and looking better and not to mention help with length. Pick the tail out instead of combing through it (unless you are not worried about length).
There is a product called WOW! (I forgot the makers name though) and its supposed to break down the stain with enzymes. THen you have CBM "Yellow Out" that is supposed to be good (from other testamonials). Anything with a bluing in it will help.

Bleach and water mixture will get it out quickly if you are in a hurry. Doing this once will not hurt the tail if you put heavy conditioner on it afterwards. I would not continue using it numerous times. Horese tails are tough and as long as you rinse it out well and condition it will help for a quick fix.

Heavily conditioning is not a problem as I already do that I also hot oil her tail once a month (its grown close to 4 inches in 2 months) I use oxyclean but in small doses with little difference. Maybe if I doubled or trippled the amount ill get her tail white again.

As mentioned, bleach and water mix is a great 'quick fix' - that's usually my last resort on a yellowed tail. Not to say it can't happen, but I've yet to have a horse (even those with sensitive skin) have an ill reaction to Tide x Oxy Clean mix. It's far more gentle than Bleach once you get the stains out your best bet of keeping it stain-free is to bag it.

I wouldnt do bleach because of the other colors in her tail. I will try the tide x oxy clean mix later in the week.

Would you put bleach in your hair? Bleach will ruin the hairs and cause them to break off. A coworker did this a few times to her paints tail and it simply crushed up and disintergrated the tail hairs. She had to start over again with the tail, it hung about 8 inches below the tail bone..

I would not wash my hair with bleach.
