No, I continued to quote her because she still believes people who look for free leases are 'bad'. I didn't jump to any conclusions, she went on to explain herself but still say she doesn't like people who look for free horses or free leases.

NO. I referenced people who look, who search online, specifically, for horses they can have for free.

She said MOST tend to be that way.. not ALL ..which is saying from what she has seen and has experienced that there is a majority who end up being not the greatest owners because they're looking to cheaply do everything when it comes to horses. Though anyone would but the smaller percentage who have more horse knowledge about care and upkeep understand that it's not always feasable to do everything cheaply.. that it is usually the ignorant who choose to look only for free horses. But she is not saying ALL and generalizing everyone who looks for free horses.

Maybe I just have a better understanding of what she is saying. *Shrug*

Right - and I understand that.

However, even though it is not a generalization, it is still being pointed out that only the smallest percentage is doing it otherwise. It still hurts/bothers/whatever the word may be/ me, because if you don't know me personally, you are going to group me into that "most" category. That is all. Not trying to pick a fight, and definitely not angry at anyone. Just a little upset that if someone didn't know me , and saw I was looking at a free lease or free horse, I would suddenly be 'bad', that's all.

Well then that person wouldn't have their facts straight and are not worth getting upset over..because they didnt take the time to ask or find out. Plus it's none of their business really. It only gets to you if you let it.

Like I said, I could've easily gotten up in arms/offended at what was said too because I bought my filly cheap cheap..nearly free and I was looking for something not so expensive or free. BUT.. I read what was typed and understood what she was saying because I looked at it from different points/angles.

Try this: Take out a free ad in a free newspaper advertising a free yearling pacing horse and see how many calls you get. See how many of those callers are experienced, reputable horse people with the income needed to be responsible owners. Then let us know if most- or even any of them - are people you'd be willing to have one of your horses go to.

I am not at all ashamed to say I would not want my horse going to most of those people. No where in my messages on this thread have I made absolute accusations or generalized without allowing for exceptions. I am ashamed of nothing I have said on this thread. You may disagree, but I breed quality, special horses and I believe in sending them to special, quality homes- which I do not believe can be easily found through this particular venue.

ui look for cheap or free horses as well adn whn i do there is nothing wrong with them and they are just like any other horse that is exspensive that doesn't mean we are the horse are bad. a cheap horse is like or can do anything that a exspensive well cared for horse can. both my horses were cheap next to nothing and yes they were both rescues but did that bother me no it didn't cause it was mine and i paid so there fore didn't care he was mine to love and care for and in my eyes he was perfect now i am looking at a free horse no young and in good health and shape the girl just can't take care of him anymore and i told her i would take him since she doesn't want to sell him out to anyone but who she knows and she knows i will give him a great home where he will be happy and healthy as well as spoiled that doesn't make hima bad horse or me a bad person.

I look for free or cheap horses all the time and I am not a bad horse person. I am actually pretty knowledgeable.

I am not saying it's the truth, or not, I'm just stating that not ALL of them are going to be irresponsible or crappy horse owners.

Why can't other horse owners want to cash in on a good deal like that? We don't like spending a lot of money on our horses, and a free horse or free leases at times work out very well.

well, in my fictional "free horse" ad, I'd be asking for referances, stating that experience is required, and asking for people not to waste my time. I've sold plenty of horses and I've gotten plenty of calls from liars who know nothing but say they do, kids who don't know any better and want to make a $50 offer on a $1500 horse, and then I've gotten some real, reputable, responsible callers as well.

oh, and I'm one of those people who look for free horses. Not that I ever get them....but....it's fun to look. Actually, right now I'm free leasing a pony from my trainer. i must be a horrible person!!!!~Brittany

I think most breeders would like to think that they breed quality, special horses that deserve a like home. I know I do. I bet if you asked DB or Haas, they would too.

Everyone thinks their horses are special.

I've had several people offer me a 'free' horse . In fact, I had a lady offer me a free horse just the other day. Her daughter has a new horse and the free horse is ring sour. The horse is a gorgous animal, points in AQHA, just done with his showing career, he's had enough. I don't think the lady was thinking of giving the horse to me so I could neglect the animal.

I think her 'venue' is absolutely appropriate. She has the horses best interest in mind and will place the horse in a lovely home. I'm honored that she considered me, not offended by the 'free' offer. The 'venue' was good enough for me.
