I think the OP is very gracious to offer her horse to someone that truely wants a horse to love, ride and care for.

It's a bit rude to imply that someone won't take care of something unless that thing has a purchase price big enough to notice. There are plenty of folks that take excellent care of their 'free' horse/s.
I agree 100%

Because at least I would know that he was going back to a loving and wonderful home and I would never have to worry about wheather he was doing good or not because I would know that he was ok.
I would feel the same way....

Wowwww - I look for free leases all the time - even sometimes free horses.

What makes these 'free' horses not decent?! What makes me a bad owner for looking for those type of situations?!

I do it to secure a strong bond with the horse and then buy if the owner is willing. So yes, I DO have the money, yes I WOULD give it an excellent home. That's sad that 'people like me' aren't the kind of owner you would want your horse going to.

i am the same way your not alone and i see nothing wrong with it and i think it is a good idea keep it up we need more people like us around doesn't meant the horse gets a home any less then what it deserves or less spoiled they have a better life like that and they seem happy as well as healthy and well taken care of and that is all that matters

Certainly not all free horses are lousy. But if they were able to command top dollar, you can bet they wouldn't be giving them away. Sure someone might give away a brand new Lamborghini, but more than likely any free car is going to be a rusty hunk of junk up on blocks. Horses are no different.

hey hey hey that is not always true friends and relatives have gotten free horse and free leases and there are nothing wrong with them horses at all. And for cars that is not always true either my brother got a free car when he went into the army and it was a great car lots of miles but in great shape.

I agree that free horses are not always bad horses.
Sometimes sellers sell horses to people that are not suited to that buyer, then the buyer is just anxious to get rid of the horse but has a conscience and does not want to take it to an auction and devalues thehorse because it did not work out for them, so they offer it for free.
I have seen many parents give away horses they bought for their kids because the horse required a more advanced rider and they were scared the kid would get hurt. Of course when they buy it the seller claims the horse as kid safe, a broad statement, and now the buyer feels guilty selling the horse to anyone else so to escape liability for the horse they just say take it at your own risk. The horse just needed an owner whose riding skills were a better match to it's training.
And sometimes youngsters get all geared up about pretty ponies and later their interest shifts to boys/girls whatever. I have seen parents give away horse/tack/remaining feed and hay all for free to escape the monthly board fee for keeping a horse that the kid no longer wants.

Another circumstance was that a man who boarded from a friend became terminally ill and just wanted the horse to go free to anyone that would care for/ride/ and love it.

I am not talking about family or special circumstances. My uncle offered his foundation bred QH to me for free since he was moving. But it was only free for me, not the outside public.

It is just a generalization. I am not saying it is true 100% of the time. If you were to look at a random sampling of 100 free horses, how many do you think would be highly trained, well bred, with great conformation and proven ability? Then compare that with a random sampling of $10,000 horses.
