Yearling Filly

Hi folks. Here's a filly I have. Long story on how I got her and eventually got her paperwork, but she's in much better shape now then when she arrived here. She's still a bit ribby and still growing like crazy. She turned one in April. I know the pics aren't the greatest, but setting the timer and getting her out and set up was a pain! I didn't quite do it everytime lol. Plus the ground isn't the flattest... but... Let me know what you think. The good, the bad, the ugly...

You know. I think she's got potential. It's so hard to accurately judge a weanling/yearling unless you see them grow from the day they arrive and know their parents. She's got a nice chest on her. I think if you keep pouring the groceries to her and working her, she'll blossom. Time will tell with her. Looks a little toed in on the fronts from this photo and a little turned out in the backs. Shoulder is a little straight and the hip light (but that part can improve with work)

Thanks. I'm pouring food into her left and right lol. She was awful when she arrived here about 7 months ago, skin and bones, skin infections, then she got strangles, prolapsed soles... It's been an uphill battle, but she's finally looking halfway decent now. I'm not real good at judging conformation in QH/Paints, but I'm learning. I'll be here next year going: What do you think of her now? lol

Good! Any time a horse has a rough start it puts them at a disadvantage. As long as she's gaining well and behaving, that's all you can ask for in a baby!

Thank you. Here's a pic of what she looked like when she came to us. She was in really bad shape. Under all that fur she was all skin and bones with the wormy pot belly. The fur is 4 to 5 inches thick. The mud you see goes all the way to the skin, which caused all those wonderful infections. I'm very happy with how she looks now, she still has a bit of a ways to go, but she looks soooo much better and is finally completely healthy.

This pic was after a whole month in our care... Still not looking very good but it shows that awful belly and more of her bony angles...

Wow.. I just have to say those before and almost after pics are like night and day. So far, you've done wonderful with her and she's made a great improvement. Keep up the excellent care and she will shine.

Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure how tall she is. I haven't taped her yet, but I'd say roughly 13 hands and still growing.

*Putting measuring the babies on the 'To Do' list.*
