Talking Yeager Update

Background: I have a breeding to this stallion since I lost my first foal out of him.

Well, I just called Anne Johnson (Yeager's owner) to let her know what was happening with myself and she shared what was up with Yeager and his offspring.

Yeager and his offspring, Odin and Bear, went to RPSI inspections.

No, Yeager did not pass because he got a 4 for correctness (his legs are toed-out in front and back due to him eating off the floor so much when a neonate since his mother passed away). All his other scores were 7's and 8's though, including an 8 jump and canter and temperament. The inspector talked to Anne about it afterwards and said not to geld him and to bring him back once he is competing and has more foals on the ground to show that the toed-outedness is from environmental factors, not genetics.

Both his colts went Premium, though, which is great. Odin got a 9 for his trot, too! Bear also did very well, but I'm unsure on the details.

So, I'm very tempted by this all. Hmmm...

That is very promising! And those judges know what they're talking about. But they have to judge what they see.

But that's great news still!

I'd give him another chance, since his two colts did so well, and he did great, except for his leg problems, which can be explained...Cathy

Haha. I HAVE Bear (renamed Baron, couldnt' handle Bear...yech). Baron got silver premium at his inspection, I don't remember the scores he got since he wasn't ours the day of the inspection and I don't think I was paying too much attention...I was having fun watching him run around and daydreaming about buying a baby.

One thing I will say...Baron is toed out infront as well as a little cow-hocked in the back. Now, his mother is also a bit toed out so I dunno if it's coming from her, or both her and Yeager. He is straightening out as he grows, but it is noticeable to me and I think it will always be there to some degree. He does have beautiful movement, I wish I had some video of him cantering, Yeager really gave him a lot of lift to his front end.

Baron was only 2 months old when he went to his inspection and the foals that were getting gold premiums were quite a bit older by 2-3 months and were more developed...that was one of the judge's comments. Baron has some noticeable conformation faults that, in my book, would knock some points off, but I'm not sure if he still may have placed higher if he'd been older. We'll be taking him back as a three year old to see how he does.

What a small world, I didn't know that baby was yours. How sad that he died.

Here's some pics if you're curious...you can kind of tell what his front end looks like in this picture evn though he's not squared up.

Yeager is gorgeous...that shoulder is pretty much ideal in my book.

I'd say go for it, especially if the mare balances out his faults.

Gosh, I don't see any toed-out in that picture If indeed whatever they saw is related to how he ate as a youngster, then I would just squish the farrier/trimmer who was looking after his feet at that time I have not heard of toeing-out as a result of how a horse eats, only having heard of one foot developing more upright than the other as a result of it always being back.

When he was younger, he grazed like this:

You can see in the foal picture how is standing. That is after his mother passd away.

The good news is that is and will most likely grow out of it as he gains more width.
