Wrapping the UPPER part of a horse's leg

Has anyone come up with a solution to wrapping a horse's upper portion of the leg? I'm thinking I may have to resort to duct tape to hold the bandage. :P

His upper leg + shoulder have been shaved. Maybe using some type of tape may help it stay, now that the hair is shorter??

The only way to get it to stay up is to continue the wrapping up over the withers and around the barrel. Otherwise it will come off even with duct tape. A long ace bandage works well for an overwrap.

I have heard of something called a spider bandage. IT was in an old practical horseman magazine.

i've heard of the spider bandage as well. my friend did a talk/project about bandages in my class during school and one of the ones she showed us was the spider bandage. she showed it for mainly knee injuries, but i'm pretty sure you could use it on the forearm and it would totally help in keeping it up.. it just allows a bit more movement of the muscle and what-not while still being bandaged

Spider bandages sit on top of a standing bandage and are for knees. if that is all of the coverage you need, then go on with it.
You can use two standing bandage one on top of the other end to end and wrapped just like you do a regular standing bandage, only x2

I wish I'd had this piece of advice when "D" sliced herself open .

Wow!! That's one talented horse

His swelling is in the same location, except on the front muscle. Maybe spider bandage would not be helpful? I am going to try it anyway, using a splint on the section of leg above the knee that does not flex. I am using pillows underneath.

I would try Cindy's ( DoubleBarr ) method before spending money on that , which looks to be a good product for a cut in other areas of the leg.

If your horse is injured in the same area as mine was..... I can tell you now, it won't stay up on the leg.

You don't have to buy a spider bandage, you make it out of an old cloth. Which is why I was so interested. We've tried looping wraps over the barrel and such. I'll have to ask exactly how she did it.
