I think the last time I saw anything she was in her 2nd trimester and we all said that changes needed to be made in the 3rd, even outlining some of those possibilities actually.

I might be thinking about somebody else actually, who knows.

'Complete' and 'fortified' feeds are designed to provide a total nutrition package, but only when fed according to label directions. Always keep that in mind when feeding a commercially prepared feed. It will only provide what it is supposed to if the proper amounts are being administered.

Her weight looks great right now. But lactation requires even more calories and nutrition than 3rd trimester does.

Can someone tell me what this - TC30 - will be giving Tiff that she isn't getting already from her other feed? I'm trying to understand what she's missing...and why this would work well for her. Thanks everyone!

High quality protein, lots of vits/minerals that the lactation is likely draining from her body stores

Not only does everyone need more protein, but the foal (through the milk) needs a lot more copper. Low copper is strongly linked to the development of OCD and other DODs.

I can't say much about what your feeding cuz it's nothing I'm familar with or would feed. I will say that not to take out the alfalfa it helps with the milk production and other things as well. I think your feeding amply forge with the pasture and hay. The baby will also really take the most from your mare from 2-4 months of age so I for sure would get her iorned out now. I just wanted to tell ya I think your mare looks good and that baby is toooooo cute! Our mares and foals eat Strategy and do well on it. I know ya all think oh god the sugars but I still swear by Omelene 300 for mare and foal and never had anything but results! Enjoy that baby!

We feed a soy-based 16% mare and foal pelleted feed that we have great results with. Check into feeds that have been formulated for mares and foals. At a few days old, our babies always start nibbling at the feed. Then, when they get a little older, they're eating like mama. Good luck.

Yep! I put JR on it due to his hoof problems (canker, etc.) at SueB's suggestion, and in just 6 weeks I see a major difference in his overall condition. His frogs look better, his coat looks amazing, and he has so much more energy and life. It will remain to be seen if it does indeed assist his immune system so that we can put his hoof problems behind us, but I have no doubt that it will. (He is also getting rice bran and flax seed, vit. A capsules and Focus HF hoof supplement.)

My point is that I am seeing results FAST with it. Good stuff.

By giving her about 3/4 ration of it, you will be doubling the nutrition that she's currently getting. Since she is a relatively easy keeper, you don't need to up calories too much. But her nutrition is lacking quite badly for early lactation. The complete is a well formulated feed, but to get what she needs from it she would have to be getting about 10-15 lbs of it right now. Which I'm sure we can all agree she does not need.

You might even want to consider adding the full ration of 30% on top of the complete that she's getting for the first few months of lactation.

I would also up the rice bran to a lb.
