There is a horse in our lives (my Mom and I) that will never leave it until the day she passes on. She has inspired us as well as many others who know and have known her. Her name is Cassia. She came to us almost four years ago with patches of hair missing from rain rot, a secondary staff infection in her legs, second degree burns on her muzzle, photo sensitivity damage and a case of founder. In addition to this she was a walking skeleton. There is no sum of money that this horse could ever be sold for. She had a poor prognosis. The vet looked us in the eye and said he didn't know if she'd make the night. We prayed so hard and went out to her three times a day to treat her. She was on so many different things to get her well again it was unreal. I could write a story about this magnificent animal. Our love for her goes deeper than the love that one has for just a horse or just another pet. She has become an important part of our lives. We'd sell our house for her, period. I've never once understood how such an abused animal could harbor any love for the creatures that got her into that position in the past. The son of a veterinarian, too. Go figure. She was a court seizure before we adopted her. To this day she is completely sound with thin soles as the only drawback. Nobody thought this horse would make the night let alone gallop in the pasture four years later.

I would rather sell everything I own (aside from my cat) and sleep on the floor of my room with nothing else but a bible for my pillow then sell either of my babies. I came to that conclusion a month or two ago when my bank account went in the red. (luckily it didn't stay there)

My family takes ownership very seriously. When we buy anything that lives and breathes, we take it and keep it, despite any issues or problems. The only time we have ever lost a furry family member was to death. And I intend to keep it that way with my horses. If I did get rid of one of them, it'd be my boy, and only because he's a rescue and would go back to the rescue. Rosie I've had for two years and she's so much a part of me that when she dies, it will be the darkest day of my life.

...so no, I wouldn't sell them for any dollar amount.

I'd like to say no, but if the right home & the right money came along and I wasn't able to provide for him like I should, then yes.
I've had to sell beloved horses before due to circumstances, and not a day goes by that I don't regret it. I've had some phenomenal horses over the years, one of the best being a young talented warmblood. But I always made sure that a good home was top priority. Every horse I have sold is STILL with their buyer, so it must have been good matches. I will not let someone buy one of my horses if I don't feel my horse is comfortable with them, and vice versa.

No. Jazz has always been there for me and has/is helping me deal through very difficult times. I intend to always be there for him, he goes where I go.

I'd hate to sell Beau, but.. er... it'd be him over Jazz. (don't let that sweet boy know though!!) I do love him though also.

No, selling my horse would be asking me to sell a family member. I have worked hard for him, and he is my one in a life time horse. My family knows that now, and he's part of the family to them as well, they all love him (well my brother doesn't love him, but he knows how much I do) and spend time with him. I'm now just teaching my mom to ride, and they're doing great together, and my dad loves to give him massages, which he LOVES. He's very much a one person horse, but he loves people, and any living thing really, he just wants to be friends with everyone, including our dogs and cat, haha. They're not quite as impressed with having a large horse come trotting up to them throwing his head in play.

He's beyond special to me, if he lives to be thirty, I'll be forty, that'd be 36 years together.

I could never part with my quarter horse Doug. I feel like he has been passed around to much already and has so many issues to go with it.We have gone through a lot. If I had to rehome for some huge unplanned thing I think I would consider putting him down if the absolute perfect home wasn't there.

I would hate to sell the other two but I could. I would worry about our old girls care since she needs so much extra care but in the right home she would be fine. And my weanling is cute and young with no issues so I wouldn't feel like he is at a disadvantage like my other two.

I regret getting rid of my arabian years ago and never want to feel like that again

The only way I would sell my horse, is if I could not afford them, or give them the attention they deserve. And I would probably give them to someone who could.

Sometimes the person with the most money, has the least of everything else to give.

Absolutely not.

Starlite is my babbbby! She's taught me SO much and she's put up with even more. She is an amazing horse (regardless of what other people think ). She'll do anything you ask as long as she knows what you're asking. I really think we paid too much (1500) for a standardbred/quarter horse that didn't know anything but run, buuuut we probably would have paid more for her as long as we could. I wouldn't sell her for all the money in the world! Unless of course, we couldn't take proper care of her...that would be another story.

Dream's with us for life, too! At 24 with a habit of not paying attention and falling occassionally, I don't think anyone would be jumping up to buy her...but that's not the point! She's the horse that got my mom back into horses, so she's special! She gave me confidence and if she didn't, I never would have been able to get/re-train Starlite. She's an awesome horse that just needs a serious attitude adjustment As much as we complain about her, we love her! She'd never go anywhere, unless as stated above, we couldn't take proper care of her.
