Just from that picture, I'd say no.

I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn't *really* matter, but I think his head is ugly. Heavy looking with a small pig eye. I dunno, I'm super picky about stallions and if they just don't look pretty, I won't even bother investigating further. This one does not look pretty -- someone called it the "wow factor" -- so I probably would pass him by even though I don't think his conformation is all that bad. He has his faults, but bred to the right mare, I think his confo might be balanced out.

So who is he?

About 90% of our horses trace back to this guy. I like his grandson Doc *** better than him though. )

I know you've all guessed who he is by now after all those hints if you didn't know already. LOL. I'm very curious to know what you guys would have said if someone posted his picture and said: "I'm thinking of buying this stallion and breeding him to my mares and, possibly, standing him to the public. What do you think of him?" I think the picture in the OP was one of the best I have seen of him. I have seen some really unflattering ones.

I would not breed to him based on just that picture. I would have to look at his breeding and performance. Ask for more pictures, a video, make an appointment to try and see him and take a hard look at what he's been breeding and how his crops have turned out. Also how many mares he's been breeding to and what the market is for horses.

LOL..... I didn't know who he was until I right clicked on the pic to copy it so I could reduce it down enough to see the whole horse on the screen. When I hit "save as", the title for the pic came up "three bars profile"

Anyway...... honestly I have always thought Three Bars was a rather ugly horse. He is common headed, a little pig eyed, steep in the shoulder, weak in the loin, and has no real hip to speak of. It doesn't show so much in this pic, but I have seen others where it looks like his tail was shoved into his back....... he has a terrible croup. Short and flat.

I wouldn't have used him.

Um... no, I wouldn't even consider breeding a mare to him... no offense, but I just don't like most QH stallies... or most QH's in general...

He has an ugly head and his neck looks fonky to me... but that's my opinion...

Just wondering......... if you owned the above stallion, would you accept this mare for breeding?

If you owned the mare, would you consider breeding to the above stallion?

i guess i am in the minority here- i would def want to get more information on this stud based on his pic. i like the way he is built, very classic TB with some nice weight on him. i guess many people must have felt that way seeing how he is considered one of the most influential sires of all time. this is the first i have ever heard of him, and guessing by the overall negative reaction to him, he must have produced subpar babies, or some genetic problem?
