Question What would a smooth-shaved horse tail look like?

LOL.. Possibly the wierdest question ever, but I can't help but be curious!

Watching my boss's three arabians flick their tails around, especially when they poop, I got to wondering.. How freaky would it be if all of their tail hair was shaved smooth or waxed off? They'd still flick them around everywhere, but it would look so strange.

Since I wouldn't ever do that to my horses (they'd kill me, the flies would kill them, and it would look too wierd) has anyone ever had to do this for medical reasons or something? I am just really curious to see what it would look like.. Especially on an arabian.

I can't imagine how many wierd looks this thread is going to generate..

It would look similar to several of the horses in this video. I, personally, would never do it.

This is just a common thing with the Iberian Breeds. They are not left to grow mane & tail until they are 2 or 3y/os. Before that it is clipped all the time.

Very interesting! I never knew that! Is there any reason why, like how/why the tradition started? (If you know)

Ya know it's never something I've questioned! hahahaha But now that you ask, I'm kinda wondering.

I just assumed it was to keep all that hair outta the way when they were young & just "turned out to pasture"....but perhaps it has something to do with the idea that if you shave it all off, it will grow back in fuller.....????
