worming (havent wormed for 5 months)

i didnt know if this was a stupid question, the vet that i talk to do a rotation for certain months
so
my filly is 2
she is in a private paddock, no other horses were there ever
she has been there for A month

the last four months she was in a paddock for two months and for the last two months she was in pasture. 5 acres byherself there was horses there a month or so ago.

Should i get a fecal test done now or is there a certain day i should get one? since she hasnt been dewormed in a while.

I havent seen any bots here, there are plenty of horse flies though.
she doesnt look wormy or anything.(shiny hair coat, nice belly not to big but doesnt look like a hay belly or worm belly, she is growing alot her butt is a good 3 inches taller then her front)

but i want to know if i should deworm her now or wait a month until the end of summer to fall

thanks in advance.

Right now would be a great time to have a fecal done. Then deworm (or not) based on those results. Depending on your climate/weather, in 2-3 months you will likely need to deworm using something like Equimax or Quest Plus.

thank you

i found a worming program on one of the vet sites local here

depending on fecal egg count
low count - was optional twice a year ive in spring and quest plus in fall

moderate- 3 times a year, spring optional quest or ive, july deworm with strongid and october Quest plus

high-april deworm quest, july strongid, oct quest plus december ive

so ill get a fec. I dont know how off it would be since sshe was in pasture for two months and now she will be on dry lot for the next few years. I figured i can get one now and in april get another fecalegg count

is that a good idea?

Is the dry lot the size so you can clean it at least every other day? If so, this will make her not pick up any new worms. If she has now it can take a couple of years untill everything in her is out of the system. Do the FEC and come back here for more advice.

The moderat/high shedder program doesn't sound good though, keeping ERP intervals is important so the Strongid part is not what to use. Also ivermectin in December is not good at all if you have true winters. Strongid only kills the adult worms and 4 weeks after deworming there will be eggs coming out again.

I use Silver Lining Herbs
#13 Worm foe $35.00

The herbs used in this herbal combination are for the maintenance of a healthy and naturally worm and parasite free bodily system. This combination works by simply maintaining an environment which is not conducive to the environment of the parasite. Parasites and worms are opportunistic and need an unclean environment to occupy. These herbs are designed to simply maintain an atmosphere where it is uncomfortable for them to be. We use black walnut (in very small amounts), sage and clove because the parasites don’t like the taste of them and they are also good to maintain the tone in the healthy tissue, cascara segrada to support naturally occurring movement in the digestive system which gives the parasites a place to evacuate, garlic to support the natural ability of the body’s killer cells, juniper berry for the support it gives to the natural wellness of the urinary system, kelp as a source of the natural bodily minerals, and slippery elm to maintain the natural vitality of the gastrointestinal tract (GI). The bottom line is the parasites cannot reside where the environment is kept in its vibrant naturally healthy state.

Contents - approximately 60 scoops ( 60 Table spoons ) = 6 months supply
Given 10 days starting on the full moon each month.
Colic was an issue for Stormy our rescue pony when it comes to wormers, No colic now & its all herb's. It is not hard on her kidneys, mixes well in feed, so no more trying to get her to take the paste
I now have everyone one on it, After reading reviews, I was in. This is safe, and you cant over worm, & in the reviews users had stool samples done with clean & clear results.
Oh & I do not sell Silver Linning Herbs, I am a user of it & verry happy with the out come on a few of ther herbs.
Have a good one

Have you done FEC before and after to see if there really are any effect?

I rotate between Ivermectin and Quest Plus. I LOVE Quest Plus because it also prevents/treats tapeworms and it's reasonably priced. Unfortunatley, I can only get it at ONE store around me.
