Wither Reflief type pad for western saddle?

I'm just trying to get infomation about this type of saddle pad.

My friend just got a lovely saddle for her gelding, and it fits him really well. However, it could stand to have a little more padding/lift in the front.

The saddle is comfortable for both the horse and rider, and a special pad isn't *needed*, I just want to see what is out there.

Pics, links, info, would be great!

Are you looking for a wither 'relief' pad? Or a built up or reverse wedge type pad?

Your post sounds more like the later is what you're interested in.

I have a barely used Cashel reverse wedge pad for sale. I paid $30 plus shipping. If you're interested I would take $20 with free shipping. Nothing wrong with it at all
It's this one:

A built up pad with cutback for the withers would probably do the trick. My boy has really high withers but has a really round barrel. So he basically looks skinny at the top and fat at the bottom. It's really odd. Makes me think he's pregnant or something. Too bad he's a boy. haha.

Anyway, I use a built up wither pad with a cutback can offer your friend's horse some relief.

I bought this one for my horse. It is made by hand but very well made. It doesn't have flush padding like most other built up pads, but the lining they use inside is pretty nice and the whole thing is well balanced and solidly built.

I hope that helps!

I say definitely go with the Cashel reverse wedge pad! I used one for lift in the front on an Aussie saddle for my very high withered TWH who also had hollows below his shoulders. It worked wonders! Its thicker in front, and tapers to about 1/2" in the back. Perfect for a high withered horse who's saddle needs a bit of lift in front.

Thanks everyone!

CrazyHorse: I'm very interested, however our problem seems different.

The gelding is a big bull-dog type QH. He doesn't have high withers, but they aren't non-existant either.

The saddle just needs to be evened out a bit. It slopes down (at the front), and just needs to sit more even.

Would this pad work for that?

I wish I could tell you for sure The reverse wedge pad would def. lift it in the front without lifting it in the back. I used it once but sold the saddle I used it with so I don't need it. Can you show your friend the pad on the smartpak website and see what she thinks?
