winter coat clipping

do you need to clip a horses winter coat when the weather is hot again? Or can you just leave it alone...sorry I bet this is a pretty stupid question, i guess i am just wondering what most people do.

Normally i just wait untill their winter coat starts to shed out in the spring and then ill use the shedding blade to help it come out a little faster.

The only time you need to clip is if you are constantly working the horse so hard they are sweating and not drying.
Otherwise they will shed in the spring.

we full clip two of our horses every year because they compete apart from 1 pony who we full clip in spring because she's a cushings pony.

I use the supplement called "Super 14" made by farnam, it helps shed them faster and leaves them with a very shiney, fine show coat. I usually start it in the early Spring and I found using this makes the shedding process alot faster. You do have to do alot of grooming but the hair seems to come out by the handful real fast. Or you can just let nature take its coarse but this supplement is wonderful. It is safe for any age horse even small pets. I have been using it for years.
