Post Winter

hey, i know this winter in the uk will be realy cold and plus my horses are on top of a mountain so it'll be even colder. Their already getting 3 slices of last years hay. i have 2 rugs for my dartmoor, but we dont have any more for my other horses. there is bobby, hes a shire x so he'll be ok this winter and there is molly my dartmoor, shes the one with the coats. and theres butler hes a Connemara and hes about 11-12 yrs and he looks like hes gonna need a coat this winter. my other two horses will be fine this winter. but what i was hoping to get an answer for was, what else can i do for them this winter??
i wish i could bring them in for the winter but no room! lol any ideas??? please!

I'm half way through your rug for the chestnut shetie. The other thing to do, is get a large round bale of hay, from one of the farmers, I pay about £20 for one and you get 4 times as much as a bale, stand it up and pull the mesh off, great for when the grass has gone. They can pick at it all day long which will help them keep warm. They will huddle together also with their backs against the driving wind and rain, I know they are always getting it wrong, but they havn't predicted much snow this year(never rely on British Weatherman), but to be honest it's usually warmer when it snow, it's the driving wind and rain I hate, this can realy knock the weight off if they are living out without any shelter.

well hopefuly well be abole to put them down the bottom when it gets worse, need to relocate sunny, he may have to go in the stable all winter. down in the bottom feild they have a running streem which goes straight through the feild and they have a well covered patch down in one corner. last year we put a round bale in and put barb wire around it to stop them plunging in. (dont worry our horses know not to push against the wire and get cut). the only problem is if we have sunny in the stable we dont have any where to put the muck, we are currently shoveling it into bags and friends come and take it away to put on their garden. i think the garden gets the best bet. lol
