Will Skye "lose" her training?

I had a trainer put thirty days on Skye for me this past August and Skye's been doing pretty well I think but lately I've been working sixty hour weeks, which leaves pretty much zero time to work with Skye and on top of that it's been raining and just generally icky here for the last month or so, I haven't gotten a chance to ride her in almost a month

What are the odds that she will remember all her lessons when I do finally get a chance to ride her again?

If this keeps up I'm not sure what I'll do, I'd like to continue her training myself but between work and the weather I don't have the time or the place (no indoor...heck, no outdoor either...I usually just ride her in the field)

I don't know if I should look into boarding (seems weird when you consider my Dad owns several hundred acres of land lol) or send her for more training, or I could see if I could find someone around here that would come out and ride her but that brings me back to the weather problem again, erg, I don't know, but I know I need to do something...she is becoming a bit bratty (ok, she started out a bit bratty...) and is picking on Mariah all the time now.

Mostly I'm worried that the time and money put into her this summer will go to waste if I don't do something...I just don't know what that something is

My mare was started in the spring of 2008 (120 days) and I rode her lightly through the summer of 2008. I let her sit for about 6 months after that.

When I got back on her (this summer) she was fine and she had remembered her training

Good luck.

I'm a firm believer now that if your horse truelly learned what you wanted they can sit for however long and be fine, just a little rusty.

When I started my late two tear old she got 30 days then I broke my femur. When I hopped on after only a day of groundwork 8 months later she rode off like I had ridden her yesterday.

Lose her training? no
But don't expect her to do it with not getting a refresher course.

I started some dressage work with Misty last week, and she already knew some of it. I have never worked with her in dressage, so the person who was working with us and I believe that she had some kind of previous training. I have owned her since 2006, so sometime before that she learned. Was she rusty? Of course, but she has picked it back up very quickly!

My friend had 30 days put on her horse and then the horse had about 6-8 weeks off between popping an abcess, and time. The horse is 3 yrs old, she goes and rides him MAYBE once a week on the trails, and he is absolutely perfect.

Is there a way you could just trailer to a place with an indoor when you have time/bad weather? That is what I plan on doing when I start riding (I have my horses at my parents aswell) I'd rather just pay a ring fee to use their indoor than full board at another facility.

Thanks for the encouragement, I do realize that she will at the very least need a refresher, I guess I'm more worried that the refresher would end up being another thirty days just to get her back where she was.

Nope, I don't own a trailer so hauling somewhere isn't really an option and aside from that I still wouldn't have the time to load her up and take her somewhere to ride on a consistent basis.

Yea I totally understand you there. I'm in the same boat as you but my guy is just a yearling so it will be atleast a year and half before I start to think about trailering him places to actually ride ... hopefully by then I'll be able to save up for a trailer
