Smile Wild Mare Turned... Not So Wild? *PICS*

We bought Saki as a half wild, abused, scared little 3 year old mare. At 2 years old she foaled her first baby, and at 3 was pregnant again. She had been hogtied, been punched/hit/kicked, had been "rodeo'd," fed old moldy roundbales, and was in a small disgusting paddock deep with feces and other horses and bison.

You could not catch her for anything... she wasnt halter broke anyways. She was terrified of any and all people, any sudden movement or noises would send her over the edge. Children and nonhorsepeople were not safe around her.

This is her now.

I tried Clinton Anderson's leading instructions from the recent Horse & Rider with her... LOVE IT!

intimidating? nope.

some loving

and working

other way please... she hates going this way.

good girl, now move those hindquarters

very good, now drop your head... shes light as a feather

Theres still a long way to go, and not a whole lot of time with school, two jobs, and 10 other horses but eventually she'll be useable. At this time I am the only one whom she really truly 100% trusts... but as you can see shes no longer scared of everything. Everything above was done in a paddock[that shares a fence with the pasture] with 3 lambs, 1 filly, 2 crabby mares, rambunctious kittens, evil geese, and an obnoxious six year old. Shes doesnt blink at tarps, bags, rolly stuff, etc. Im just so happy with her.

nope, shes just extremely fat. She foaled her baby last year... the first year we had her we halter broke her and just had her sit in the pasture and grow up. Now the past year I have been working her on and off... when I get some time Ill play with her... because of how irregular her works are shes doing amazingly well. She has the best ground manners of any of our other horses... and that includes antiques to show horses. Shes a very smart little lady.

heres her son pouting yesterday

I really love her. I'm such a s.ucker for dark horses, and I really like how short she is with her long mane and tail. That's amazing work you've done with her.

What a doll she is!! And that jump is DARLING!!! She would make a very nice hunter pony! Her son looks to have a really nice trot, a nice boy. You have done such a fantastic job with her, you should be extremely proud!

from what you said about her past.. the fact that this horse trusts anyone is a testament to how forgiving and smart horses really are you look like you've put a lot of work and time into Saki, you should be really proud of yourself, she looks like a happy, comfortable plucky little mare.. oh yeah and she's awful cute too by the way

She is so much happier. I feel bad for the other horses she was with.
Do you think she would have been a real horse with the prople care? Or is she a real pony?
