That's just their genetics to have those LONG manes and tails .Some I saw at the show this weekend literally had tails dragging the ground a couple of FEET behind them!

I think they should just cut it up to the hocks. Anyone else agree?

I LOVE long Arab manes and tails. But dragging like a train? Overkill, IMO. Like those people who get in guinness for never clipping their nails.

Oh, if I could just get a *regular* length mane on Regal I'd be the happiest girl!

Some owner/exhibitors of Arabian and Half Arabian horses simply like the look of the long and super long manes and tails so they want them to grow as long as possible.
Other owner/exhibitors do not care for the real long manes and tails so they do not protect them and have been known to take a razor to them when they start to get too long and will pull and thin them if they get too thick for their tastes.
While the rules say the horse must be shown with a long natural mane and tail it does not mean that the mane has to be down to the horse's knees and the tail dragging the ground.....when it comes to THAT length, and look, it comes down to personal preference.

My friend used to loan a arab and i used to love her long mane and tail!!
but we decided to cut her tail as it was getting way to long and it wasnt practicle for what she wanted to do. So she cut her tail shorter and left her mane and that looked realli nice!!!!!

I think because I'm used to the "hunter look" I tend to favor it, but I do think that the long manes (when well maintained) look quite exotic and beautiful. Most people who are serious about thier arabs and showing (if you don't show then who cares if you cut it, right?) tend to keep them braided, in a sleezy or at least groomed frequently. I boarded at an "arab barn" last winter and most of thier horses manes were braided and in sleezy's.
