So after LuvMy2Horses' post i got to thinking and I was wondering how you guys chose your horses names. So I decided to start a thread asking why you named your horses what you did, I am sure this has been done before but I guess i missed it

Personally my horse is named Kaibab because it is one of the layers that make up the Grand Canyon and I more or less met the love of my life backpacking in the Grand Canyon.

So what are your stories?

My horses all came with their names. Since they all knew their names very well, we kept them.

We did attempt to change our newest horses name, but he would never listen. So a person always ended up using his given name to get his attention. Finally we gave up and just kept his given name of Sammy.

Aussies actual name is Awesome and according to the people she was bought from she was called that because her dame was no where near a stud when she became pregnate.... interesting hu?

My horse's are names Bravada cause that's what I traded for her Encore is her filly cause she looks just like her mom. Pepsi is my gelding because you can set a pepsi any where near him if you want to keep it and Hugh because this horse is humungous 17 hands and easily 1500 pounds and a reg appendix bred Quarter horse he's reg name is Gullivers traveller

My sister at the age of 13 (she is now 22) named my sons mare Cinimon, my paint mare came with her name "Keeta", we bred her and named her foal, our gelding, Mustang because its my favorite car and I'm hoping he has the speed his momma has. Porche we named because it was close to her name she came with but goes along with the car theme and she is appendix so again hoping for speed

Everybody came with their name but Flicka, well she came with the name Gretel ( at 8 months old, and didn't know it all at) , but I didn't think it really fit her. So, I narrowed it down to Flicka and Lacey, and my mom chose Flicka.

Well, two of my horses came with just registered names so I gave them barn names but most of the rest didn't have names.
My MFT mare came with the name, Perfection's Famous Fanny but I shortened it to Fancy because her blood lines are Fancy and because I liked the sound of Fancy better then Fanny.
My grey QH gelding came with the name Doc's Grey Lena but I changed it to Fleet Foot because my dream had been to get a grey with black mane and tail and name him Fleet Foot, lol (Just wanted to mention that he lived up to his name, he's faster then grease lighting and can jump higher then a pedigree Kangaroo! LOL).
I named my three white Arabian mare's that came with no names Frisky, Star and Rose and my sorrel Baskier Curly mare that came with no name I named Bold Beauty.
Also my bay QH gelding that I sold came with the name Himp but I changed it to Timber.

Well... My black gelding came from an auction with no name.The guy who bought him, bought him at Midnight thus he got that name. He was then sold to a lady who kept him for almost a year and she called him Midnight. I then bought him off of her and HATED that name from the get go.So I changed to to Talladega. Talladega is the name of a Nascar racetrack and I LOVED the name!

My other gelding came with the name Buddy.I'm not to thrilled with that since we have 2 dogs with that name as well so I call him Decker. I have no clue how I came up with that name!I just said it one day and 5 years later I'm still calling him Decker!Lol. He only gets called Buddy by my grandpa or my mom.

Jackson came with it. Felix I came up with because his registered name is NLF Trulee Catwalkin and Felix is a cat's name so yeah.

my dad named my gal, my horse has one marking.. a star on the forehead.. hence.. starlight.
Oddly enough 2 years prior i got two stars tattooed on my shoulder blades... thematic eh?
