Why is this baby Buckskin? *Appaloosa pics:)*

Ok...

The lady I bought Rooster from has sent me pictures of her '08 babies.. Her stallion, Reno, is a son of Maximum Success. He is a Bay Leopard. Ive seen this baby up close...Ive seen its mother. The mother is reg. as a "Liver Chestnut". Her sire was a Buckskin. I figured this mare was probably misregestered and was probably a very dark buckskin herself. She has only ever had bay or sorral babies. I had to see this mare up close and sure enough, nothing about her color says "cream gene" to me. Maybe, just Maybe I thought Reno may be a Smokey Black.. Im unsure what color his Mother is but Maximum Success is Black based. This is driving me mad. Help me figure this out!

This is Dusty and her Buckskin foal:

This is Reno:'

I'm thinking the mare is actually a black buckskin, although as strange as this sounds my mum once had a foal that was a buttermilk buckskin who then shed liver chestnut.

it has a blanket, its just not a leopard like the parents. A recessive gene prob. came out, if you look at the genetic possiblities of it....

What do you mean by "black buckskin"? If you mean a horse who looks like a dark bay, but is really a dark sooty buckskin, I can go with that

But, a buttermilk buckskin (or bucskin of any shade) cannot shed out to a liver chestnut. If the horse really was a buckskin, with the foal coat being light, he could easily shed out to the dark sooty buckskin color. Or, he was a light chestnut to begin with and his adult color was a liver.
