This is kind of what we were thinking. She had two weeks as a two year old prior to my owning her, and this would have been the only time she could have gotten this kind of handling.

Problems like these should be investigate, finding the true cause and alleviate or modify the reaction.
Most problems come from the break downs in communication, confusion, or
inproper handling by us humans.
It would be best to look into your handling, technique.
I hope this helps.
Thanks. That all makes a lot of sense. Maybe when she was being poked she got wigged out or when my other friend rode her. I don't think it is my general handling because I am a really light rider in the sense that I am light with my hands and am not a big kicker. She's usually really quiet with me, which is why this surprised me.

For the record, my comment was not aimed at the sport of reining (one of my daughters is a reiner and through her involvement I've been developing a real penchant for the sport) - just merely stating what I have seen at some of the bigger venues, and not just behind the barn either.

Take care.

I had a reining trainer that spurred my horse for lead changes! He was supposed to be good too! NOT! so could very well be that she was jabbed in the shoulder. Some people should not be training let alone reiners.
