Why does my horse lick me?

Lick, lick, lick, he just hangs out and will lick me till I'm covered with slobber.

Do baby horses do this type of behavior? My horse is twelve and very attached to me. Sometimes he licks my bare hand, sometimes it is my blue jean covered knee, so I don't think it's the salt.

What is he doing? Is he just telling me he likes me, or is it a throw back to some wild behavior?

Hehe. I know a horse who just loves to lick people. Faces, hands, or anything within licking distance. XD Consider yourself lucky that your horse likes you. The horse I ride would rather bite my arm off than show any affection. :P

Same reason dogs do it, because they are obnoxious. Lol

He may lick you because of the salt on your hands. My horses do it too

Aspen does that too. I think it's just part of his personality.

My gelding likes to lick me as well. For my gelding seems to relax him when the farrier is out or other stressful times.

Many horses like to lick your hands for salt, and some are just plain lickers! My Saddlebred mare was like that, she'd follow me around when I was doing chores licking my hat and coat, and if given the chance she really loved to lick the farrier.
