Why do you show?

Since I am laid up with an injured leg, I am reading lots of threads. I notice many many people on here show their horses.

So I was wondering why people decided to get into showing? I never considered showing, but I am wondering if I am missing something. LOL

It seems like an expensive thing to do. What makes it worth the cost?

It also seems very complicated to me, being new to horses. How did you figure it all out?

How did you choose WHAT to show in. I am amazed at all the options.

Now here is a really dumb question. Are there cash prizes?

Because I think theres more my horse can do then be a trail mare.

It makes it worth the cost when you place in the top (even win) based on how good you and your horse did in the competition knowing all your hard work and preparation paid off.

I had help from a couple really good friends

You go and do what you think your horse is cut out for. And what your horses breed is meant to do. I do Dressage because I have a Thoroughbred mare.

Yes, there are cash prizes.

Are there any cash prizes? The NCHA and NRHA both paid out over $9,000,000 last year. My son used to show when he was in school because he said there was alot of girls to meet at shows. Then he married a girl that had never riden in her life. Go figure.

I show now because I want to promote my breeding program so I want as many of my foals to end up with a show record as I can. Right now were showing a 4 year old stallion to try and get some money earned on him for promotion for breeding to him. Its expensive theres no doubt!!! Is it worth it? If your going to have a breeding program for the long term I think it is I plan on using this stallion to breed with for another 20 plus years the money spent in showing is spread out over that time.

Because i believe my mare has the potential and is so close to the top, she is a fantastic horse that was sold as a hack after she retired from a high level of jumping, but she still loves going out and it's always a very happy, enjoyable expiernce for everyone involved with her.

That sounds like more fun than just taking lessons. Which I have to do.

Once my leg heals, both myself and our mustang paint cross need to go to an instructor. What is an unregistered mustand cut out for? He is tall and lazy.

muddy picture

Picture of him last year.
