Well I'm going to continue to condition/feed him like a barrel horse. THEY don't have haybellies. lol

He will get it eventually. Getting him in barrel horse shape is helping a bit I think. The difference between him in the ring and in the field at home is like night and day. At the show he likes the other horses and hasn't really shown any "ring sour" issues there (just a little herdboundness, but I can ride him through that). It could be years before he really gets over riding in the ring at home.

He doesn't act totally like a green horse so it's easy to forget that he is VERY green.

How can you ride in order to make your horse's job easier for them?

I used to have problems with young horses at shows simply because they were used to being ridden alone at home. I was lucky enough to make friends with a couple of other local horse women who were having similar problems. We started getting together once or twice a month for either a trail ride or a ring session on our green horses. It's amazing how much something like that can help. You might consider doing something like that with Ben. Just play around passing and being passed. Basically just getting him to ignore what the other horses are doing in a controlled environment.
