He is registered white. His granddam White Beauty was the first to be registered white if I am not mistaken... or at least the first in this line.

I believe the whole line are chestnuts.

Keep in mind they could be dominant whites (unless someone knows they tested negative). One of my geneticist friends strongly feels they are. That might also have some influence on the number of whites they would produce because of the linkage to extension.

That's interesting. There was a picture of a daughter of either Patchen Prince's dam or grand dam who was pretty clearly maximum sabino as she still had some chestnut "roaning." Though I'll admit I don't know much about dominant whites.

Here, half sister to Patchen Prince:

Dominant white is capable of (and often does) mimicing sabino to a perfect T. There are tested dominant whites (ALL white) out of two "normally" marked parents. One of those parents had to be a dominant white themselves, yet they look like nothing more than your average sabino (ie small blaze and a sock, etc.).

Sorry I have had a brain lapse. Patchen Prince's full brother (The White Fox) is indeed tested as a dominant white which pretty much means this whole line is dominant white.

Gray or Roan is not connected to the lethal white gene. The frame gene is.. OLW(Overo Lethal White) A roan and gray can also carry the lethal white gene. Actually you can have a gray, roan, lethal white! http://www.apha.com/breed/lethalwhites03.html

Thanks for posting these gorgeous pics! I used to work at the farm where he was born, in fact I started working there when his dam was about 2 weeks old. Patchen Prince raced at Churchill today, that was actually the first I knew of him lol. One of my co-workers is always trying to tell me some of the grey horses we see run are white and I keep telling him he's wrong and will KNOW when a "real" white one runs. Today I heard him say "Now THAT'S a white horse!" I looked up at the Churchill screen and said "Yes, Jackie, THAT is a white horse" lol. I recognized the silks as well so knew it was a Patchen Wilkes horse so I had to go look him up lol.

Yes, White Beauty was the first white horse to be registered with the Jockey Club though there were a pair of white twins who were born the same year in England. I can't remember what happened to them but I seem to remember they made it to the track but perhaps both died in training accidents? Maybe, it's been several years since I read about them lol.

White Beauty's daughter, World O Beauty, was a loud overo with plenty of color to go with her white. Her daughter, Precious Beauty, was solid white. Her daughter, Patchen Beauty of course was solid white. Patchen has now produced two solid white colts by Pioneering, a Skip Away filly who is registered as white but looks like a negative Appy as she has a red bonnet and red on her hindquarters, and a grey Skip Away colt.

Isn't she adorable? I went to Patchen Wilkes to visit the day after she was born. Patchen still hates me for all the baths I had to give her and her mom when she was tiny but I sure did like seeing this filly. Since her daddy is one of my all time favorites it was extra special lol.
