    White Spots In Ears

....my 7 year old, Thoroughbred gelding has recently begun to experience white spots inside his ears, several people have told me that this condition is anti-fungal but is not treatable. Several other people say that these horrible looking spots are similar to ear mites in a dog or cat but my guy doesn't seem to be bothered by them (and I know that ear mites in dogs and cats drive them crazy). In any case I'm going to have the Vet come out to have a look but I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced anything even remotely similar????

I bet this is it -

    Aural Plaque (“Ear Fungus”)

White benign growths (not a fungus) commonly found on the inner surface of a horse's ear. Can also appear as warts on the face and muzzle. May initially look like dandruff. When the crust of the plaque is removed the skin is pink. The plaque is thought to be caused by a virus and possibly spread by black flies (buffalo gnats). Black flies re common around fast running water, necessary for larval development. Preventative measures include use of insecticide/repellent and/or stabling during the day as black fly are day biters.
There is a medicine that has gotten good reviews called Dermafas

I use Dynamite's Wound Balm on these - makes them slide right off after a couple of days.

....leave it to the good people of this forum to come up with not only answers and remedies but a photo of the "condition" too! I am so very grateful for the help and my horse thanks you too!

I'm going to order these products and will report back to ya'll after I begin to see some progress!

Wow, this was very interesting and useful information! I have never seen/heard of this before. Shows how everyone 'working together' on a forum and sharing knowledge is such a useful/helpful and enjoyable thing!
