get them a little damp, and then put baby powered on them.

Have you tried a spray on whitener/coat cleaner? I use that on the white part of my tobiano and it works well.

Wen i bath the day before a show I take a chalk block to there legs while they're still wet it basically will go on like paint, and you don't have to cover every available white bit, then bandage to keep them clean overnight, take bandages off in the morning, v v v white legs, and brush to take of as much excess chalk as poss. Only thing is this is only good if judges aren't gonna touch the legs!!

Clip them. It's so much easier to keep them clean, and it looks neater too. Baby powder/chalk/Shapeley's at shows right before you go in the ring, but it works better if the legs are clipped too.

Clip the for sure! I clip them (about 2 weeks before the show so that they can grow out a tad). When I wash them the day before the show I mix cornstarch INTO a whitening shampoo to form a past. Then scrub the white lags with that, rinse, DOUSE them with Show Sheen I use WOW! Whitener or Lucky Braid's Whitener the morning of the show to get any stains from the night before off. I'm not all that crazy about chalking and such because it makes them look unnaturally white - I will use the Shapley's touch up (which is like spray on chalk) or baby powder, but I brush it a lot to blend it in. Normally I don't even nee to use anything - by clipping those "stubborn stains" come out with no problem

I've never heard of/seen a judge touch a horses legs, surely they wouldn't mark you down for it? I always use chalk...

judges dont touch them much.I would spray showsheen on them and then clip all the white. Then wash them and then the day of rub baby powder alll over the white. (make sure you arent in your black showmanship outfit about to go into the ring- i learned from experience lol) that should do the trick.

If they are clipped they are MUCH easier to manage
