Question White hair from injury???

I am wondering how big white hair spots can get after an injury...does it have an edge around it?

The reason I am asking is I cannot find any photo's online of injuries and the resulting pigmitation of white that results from them.

I have a yearling that was injured last year and she has about a two inch in diameter jagged area that is white that is supposed to be from an injury..it is long and somewhat wide..The area is pink underneath (skin) and has an area around it that is a little different.

Have you heard of this before?

The previous owners said that it was not there when she was born and they are having the vet who has looked at her sign a statement it was due to an injury.

Well it mimics a white marking beautifully. Guess you can't sneak her in as Paint then eh?

I agree, it's a white marking, not scarring. The pink skin is a giveaway. White hairs from scars still have black skin (on a black-skinned horse, like this), it's just the hair that grows in white.

A mark like this on a foal could be VERY easy to miss. And, sometimes marking change size, both relative to the horse, and in absolute numbers.

She is 100% Foundation Quarter Horse...and they will not allow white markings in their registry just white injuries...

Have you ever heard of an injury mimicing a white marking from a paint?

Nope. Sorry. I think you are stuck with that white marking.

What is funny they are adament and are getting her registered in FQHA that it is an injury...I do not know a thing about horses and am learning..

They are even having a vet sign a statement it was an injury....

Oh well...as long as I get her registered that's all I care about. Her mom is a grey and her dad a Palomino what color skin do they have underneath?

Pali's have dark skin. Grays have dark skin if they any regular color. Pink skin exists where white markings are, so if the gray was a maximally expressed Sabino (all white), or a mostly white pinto, then the skin would be pink. If the gray was a double dilute, the skin would be pink.

I wonder what reception I'll get at the all breed shows for FQHA?

I really think they honestly believe that she was injured somehow and are just not knowledgable about the pink skin w/white markings...I will keep her anyway she is a nice filly but I really bought her because she was 100% foundation and eligible for registry.
