White face, sparse hair, very pink on Lucy - wait & see ?

I tried to get a close up of it, but you can see her eye is very pink. What to do?
Plus around that area, the white hair is very very sparse. Now I just got this horse and as you can see she wore the halter, (my animals are nekkid all the time) so she won't be wearing that anymore.
Do you think I should just wait and see if the hair come back or is there something I should do in the meantime for her?

Hair tends to be sparse around the eyes anyway, it's just more apparent with white hair and pink skin. Is that perhaps what you are seeing? Does the eye itself look and act normal?

Peg, that's completely the norm for a paint with white around the eyes. That is why I liked my paints to have color on the face or at least liner around the eye. You will have to watch her for sunburn around that eye. I'd say it's probably burned at some point in time and that is why the hair is even less around her eye. But, she see's just fine out of it, so just have to worry about protection in the future. Fly masks work really well for that

Peg, if there is some tenderness in the area or if it appears swollen, I would call your vet and see what eye medication/cream he or she would suggest. It could be nothing, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Is there any ulceration of the skin, or any discharge?

It does look "normal" as far as that much white, shes almost bald faced
Especialy in contrast to her other eye, but calling it in the air with out seeing Lucy, looks like typical skin under white fur to me.

Welcome to the joy of owning bald faced paints!

Start stocking up on the sunscreen and shopping for fly masks now!
Trust me!

I do find that my mare's facial hair tends to get a bit thinner when she is sweating a lot. Also the pale parts of her face will look redder the hotter she gets. In other words.... in the heat of the day, she will be more flushed looking and then later that evening it will appear much paler/more normal.

I just use the sunscreen made for babies/kids.
The kind formulated for faces. Some people like Zinc Oxide, but I find that it is runny/goopy when it starts to get hot and can run/irritate their eyes.
Sunscreen plus a good fly mask will usually work just fine.

No Foxy, no discharge or ulcerations or open scabbies..... just sparse - could be from her rubbing on something too. That halter on sure did its damage on her face too.
I don't care for halters. They have a purpose and its not for dressing in the pasture.

OOOh, I can post my cream again, Horsemans Dream Vet Cream... It will help soothe and grow back hair! It does look like maybe she has had sunburn before. I just love the face!
