| Full Member | ![]() I wish I had some good pictures of the rest of the horses we usually haul with. Every horse we have has a nice long mane. We don't pull or band or anything. Alll natural. We're barrel people.

I like a nice short mane for WP and associated classes. now for reining and barrels a nice long mane is perfect. cody looks best with a short cut mane... ![]()

Take and make a part at an area just behind where the bridle or halter would sit just like you would if you where going to cut a bridle path. Then braid the forelocks forward and braid the mane behind the area too to keep it from coming forward. Then when you go to put on the halter or bridle all you will need to do is get the forelocks coming forward and slide on the hatler or bridle. I will see if I can get a picture of how I keep it so you can see. It works really well. Just about ever reiner I know dose this. Not many cut Bridle paths.

I've got a colt I am planning on doing english and western with. I will do a lattice braid or french braid for him in english, let it down for western. He's reining bred. I cut a bridle path this year, I refuse to next year |

Depends on the horse, type of dicipline and weather or not i'm showing. If Ihave a QH that I am shwoing in Weastern Pleasure I keep the mane about 4 inches. If I have a TWH showing in Western Pleasure gaited then I have long mane. If I am riding/showing a Reighning horse then long mane. Following the show standards for that particular dicipline. If I am just pleasure riding a horse then I like a long mane if the mane is full and thick. If the mane is thin then I usualy keep it short. Gaited usualy long regardless of the mane's texture and thickness. I like to play with a nice thick mane, I can do a little of everything esp if its long like a good French braid or what have you. ![]() Long:

I would have to say a pulled mane. It makes the Western horses neck look great! It also shows that you took the time to do all the grooming. Only certain breeds can pull off the long manes. Such as Arabs, Welsh Cobs (which I was pulling my mares mane before I was told that te breed can have a long mane). Where as my Dartmoore pony cross has to have her mane pulled.
