Where does your horse poop???

Okay...so I'm cleaning my stalls this morning...I have two geldings and two mares. And the geldings poop in the same place almost all the time. It's so easy to clean up. My young philly (when do they become a mare??) poops EVERYWHERE, and my old mare - well even though she poops in the same two spots, she drags it alllllll over the stall!

So...which of your horses are neater? The geldings or the mares?

My mare will only go to the bathroom in corners(makes her stall easy to clean) but the mini...She goes anywhere she wants LOL Which includes going into Fiona's stall and making messes in there.

Well seeming as we only own one gelding and I've never stalled him for a long period of time, I'm not sure. All of our broodmares are pretty clean(though we've got a couple that can be real pigs at times). I think over all the younger ones tend to be a little more messy...walking around, laying down, etc. I think the worst time is during weaning, because we do complete seperation. The foal goes in a stall and the mare gets turned out on a back pasture with a few other mares. We keep the foal stalled for a few days, and though we clean the stalls twice a day, it gets pretty messy in there.

And generally (from what I've heard, seen, and do) they stop calling a filly 'a filly' when she is around 3-4 years old.
Anything 2 and under (that is female) I call filly's.
And we've got two 3 year olds and I still call them filly's. And then our 4 year olds (on up)...I call them mares.

my horse when in his stall will pee right in the middle, and poop in the middle. he is only in there once a week at the most and when he is he is only eating. but my horse will poop anywhere like outside, in the barn aisle or in the arena but will only pee in his paddock or in his stall. unless he really has to pee then he will go in the back corner of the arena. my friend took her horse in the lake we have and she peed in the lake. lukly the water is filtered before it goes to the hoses!

My mare poops in corners and pees in the same spot. My gelding goes wherever he feels the need to. Then they walk all over it and hang out in it.

My horse Skip poops in one huge pile in his stall, and he has various "stud piles" throughout his pasture.... His piles get soo bad if I don't pick 'em up and spread it out at the end of our property.... he likes to pee in it too... All our mares poop everywhere and make a huge mess. They like to pee in their poop too.

Well then...I guess there is no hard and fast rule about this. LOL They're either messy or they're not...and it doesn't matter if they are male or female. I thought I would get some words of wisdom on this. I was going to be like DL and have a "poop debate #1". LOL (J/K DL)
