When Will Roaning Appear?

If a horse is going to be a roan, by what age will the roaning appear? Is it safe to say that after they lose their weanling hair, they will either be a roan or not a roan?

Depends on what type of roaning you are talking about
A turue (classic) roan should show as a foal maybe not the first baby coat , but as soon as the baby coat sheds
Sabino roaning and Rabicano and Varnish roaning all have different time tables.

Thanks! I'm looking for a AQHA mare for a friend who wants to breed quarter ponies of color. Is it safe to say by age 4 the roaning will be evident?
