Alot of horses are just so big and its unbelivable. I see some that are for sale that are 20hands. I would love to have something like that. Wouldnt you?

I find it very hard to beleive that so many of you have seen "17.2h" Standardbreds. The American Standardbred ranges in height from 14h-16h, most common standing 15h.

With 6.9 million horses in the US alone (and the numbers continuing to grow) it is really of no surprise that numerous people seem to have heard of or seen horses that stand over 17hh. Even among breeds with an average height of 15hh. There will always be the 'freaks', who stand out for their height or their width or someother aspect. And these 'freaks' tend to be the horses most people remember, because alot of horses may have jumped something high, or covered a certain distance in a certain time, but not as many horses stand as high. Personally, the largest horse I've ever seen was just a smidge over 16.3. I have however seen alot of Morgans who stood well over 15.3, with the average Morgan standing anywhere from 14.1 to 15.2 (according to www.morganhorse.com ), so breed average doesn't always count for much.

That is very true!!!! Just because there is an average doesn't mean that there is taller or shorter that is why it is called "average"

And you think that just out of coincidence, 3 people on our forum have seen 17.2h+ standardbreds? That's like 3 hands over the average height of the breed...
