What's the difference between foundation QTR horse & not foundation?

I was just wondering what's the difference. One of the horses at my daughters stable that I fell in love with was a foundation Qtr horse. He was big and black with a roman nose.

There are certain lines that were deemed the "FOUNDATION" of the Quarter horses.

A horse who is "foundation" has those horses in their lines, bred over and over again, with minimal TB or Appendix or other Qh's diluting the genetics.

aawww....so which one has more TB? The stable owner said that QH once all had roman noses and that it was bred out of them.

Foundations are QH's that have less than 20% TB in their blood, starting from 1940. Some big namers out there are not foundation, as the TB played a big role in QH's. They generally are stockier and heavier, but very capable horses.

Ther eis a registery out there www.nfqha.com

All were exceptionally well muscled, and it was probably this feature that first caught your eye.. . . these features were clearly characteristic of a breed. They were as unique in their conformation as they were in their ability to work cattle!"
from the site

those that had roman noses were THOROUGHBREDS!!!

OH, I think I know where your trainer might be thinking.

There was a foundation horse called Roman Nose!!

Most "Foundation" quarter horses I've EVER seen have pretty heads. The ones with TB influence have the funky roman nose look to them.
