ok, i have a weird question to ask..i was just wondering about this..

What's better for a horse's back, a western saddle or english??

I was always told a western saddle because supposeldy its more balanced, i wasnt sure though what do you guys think?

Neither saddle style is better or worse for a horses back... They BOTH need to fit properly or they will cause discomfort at best and injury at worst. A properly fitted and rigged saddle, regardless of Western or English, will cause a horse no discomfort nor interference in their movement.

BOTH are excellent. Just which one is BETTER for specific events.

I DON"T suggest jumping 3' fences in a western, but I do suggest a western for Cutting. Highly advised NOT to do that in an english saddle.

I prefer western for trails, some prefer english

The differences is how the seat sits you. Western grips you all the way around, and you sit deep. Barrel saddles set you up slightly.

English sets you up except for dressage, which I know sits you deeper than western, but I don't know the degree to compare to a western saddle.

As long as the saddle is properly fitted to the horse and rider, neither one should necesarily be better....However, if I were a horse, I would much rather carry around a light weight english saddle than a heavy western work saddle!

very true, very true....although I have always been one to sport the "bling bling", so perhaps if I were a horse I would go for the decked out 500 pound western show saddle.....hmmm....that's one to ponder!
