Well, I didn't get to ride much as a kid

So ~45 years later I finally get my "pony"

I do find that following some posture tips helps me greatly - legs down and back, sit up straight, etc.

(that and the hat, of course )

I went for a ride on an Arabian endurance horse for the first time in my life yesterday. We trottet and cantered most of the way and I was quite impressed with my seat.
The guy who rode with me (Australian endurance guru) said the best seat is whatever works for you. That made me feel great )

yeahhhhhhh riding sure is crappy when your horse doesn't know how to ride english or western? or whatever you are trying to get them to do? Horses will usually ride however they are trained to ride. Yes some have physical characteristics that make them better suited to one discipline vs another but a good all around pleasure riding horse should be able to ride both English and western. It is different equipment but I have not seen my horse protest over it. They never say, "Hey is that an english saddle? I can't let you put that on me, I am a western horse. HA! I use an english bridle and bit because my horse likes the d-ring happy mouth in combination with the western saddle. My daughter told me that the happy mouth was no good when I bought it cause her horse wouldn't stop in it or respect it and her horse was western." Whatever, now she grabs that bridle and bit and sticks it in that western quarter horse's grain hole and rides her tail off. Now why not try something before you discount it as un-do-able I keep telling that kid. So snooty about stuff. The horse is an animal. if the saddle fits and is comfortable and the horse understands your cues then English or western or any combination of the two on the trail or at home is great. Best if you just sit a buck regardless of the syle you are riding or what kind of saddle you are in.
