What type should I register him as

I am going to register Scout as a Pinto so I can earn points with the pinto registery but I wasn't sure which type to pick, I am thinking hunter type.

Here are the types. Take in mind we do not know his breeding

Saddle Type:

Horse Division: An English horse of predominately Saddle, Hackney or Tennessee Walking Horse breeding displaying high head carriage and animated, high action associated with these breeds.

Pony Division: An English-type pony displaying the carriage, animation and action of the Saddle and Tennessee Walking horses and modern style Shetland and Hackney ponies.

Stock Type:
Horse Division: A Western horse of predominately Quarter Horse breeding and conformation.

Pony Division: A Western type displaying conformation with Quarter Horse and original Shetland Pony breeding.

Hunter Type:
Horse Division: An English horse of predominately Thoroughbred breeding.
Pony Division: Reflects confirmation associated with the Thoroughbred horse and Connemara Pony.

Pleasure Type:
Horse Division: A horse of predominately Arabian or Morgan breeding.
Pony Division: Reflects carriage and confirmation associated with the Arabian or Morgan horse and Welsh Pony.

I agree with the hunter type... can you really go wrong?

I mean, obviously you wouldn't register him as a western horse if you aren't riding him western, and he most certainly does not look like a saddle type.

The way horses are being bred now-a-days, it is very hard to tell what breed some of them are. It is very possible that he has morgan breeding in him, but I think you'd be safest to go with the hunter type. He's built a lot like a TB... at least I think so. :P

I'm not a huge breed expert, but I agree, I think he'd best suit the hunter type.

I guess it is your call. Since you ride English then I suppose Hunter.

But I almost bet this bad boy would look at a calf I would have to go Western unless there was an 'ALL ABOVE' option.

If your main interest is competing in classes with that type of horses, then the Hunter Division is the way I would go.
The PtHA usually accepts what type choice you select however.....if your horse's sire or dam are registered what registry are they with.....as that can also affect what type your Pinto is classified as.
In all honesty, the horse could be either Hunter or Stock type...so your riding style and class type should be the main deciding factor because in the PtHA shows you will be competing against horses of the same type as yours. (Stock, Pleasure and Saddle types also have Hunt Seat type classes)
So think about the type of horse in the classes you enjoy.....
Which type would rather be competing against?

Hubby's mare is registered with the PtHA as a Pleasure type Pinto.

Agree.

Let your riding style determine type.
