Same as our pony club in my state with jumping. If you buy a graded horse you have to compete it at the graded level. (unless you are in the 12 & under group)

Things are different in Australia
Ah, ok, I see. Ok, then disregard my post! That is interesting. It's not like that here in the states... at least not that I know of. I think there is some sort of system to allow a horse and rider to move up, but I don't think it prevents you from dropping down a level or two. I'm not that up to speed on dressage rules.

Curious, if it's just a backyard schooling show does it still matter?

It's easy to forget that there are different rulebooks in different countires

Schooling show??? Whats that. I don't believe we have schooling shows. Life is a lot tougher in Aus if you want to compete. There is no mollycoddlying at all. Poor chick has had to compete against adult riders that compete with the olympians.

Wow, that's intense! Schooling shows here are non-recognized. Can be as laid back as jeans and a t-shirt, or full out show attire. It's just for gaining expierence for the horse and rider, you get judged and scored. But none of it has to do with national showing associations.

I always thought you could ride HC at any level regardless of the horses points? I think I need to go read my rule book again.

And thanks for all your help. I guess I'm looking at horses, mainly not over medium level because thats as far as my budget is stretching it seems! I'll find all the horses I have earmarked in horse deals and post in the critique section Thanks again for all your opinions.

Even our fun shows require the same effort as a proper show. If we are lucky we get to show without a jacket but still need shirts and ties at least.

You would be able to ride HC but that defeats the point of the competition IF your are competing at YOUR level. Chick has often competed HC but that is against riders of a lower level when she just wanted to get the horse experienced. She was entitled to compete against them but did not feel morally right to compete against riders of lesser experience.

Things must be strange in QLD. Down in Vic you can compeate at any level you want in EFA (although if you want to do higher levels you must qualify if its 1* or above).

We also have schooling shows down here.

Yep QLD is weird.. pony club show jumping STARTS at 90cm (that is our lowest grade!). We simply dont offer smaller classes (unless you dont compete officially) like you guys do down south.

roly - haha, it wont take you long to feel confident in the ring and btw... for the money you are willing to spend (judging by the horses in your critique thread) I'd look for a really nice warmblood

What is your price limit? I've seen some bloody nice horses under $20000 before lol. and how far are you willing to travel to find "the one"?
