What brands do you have access to?

For the horse (of any age) who doesn't need many calories beyond the hay/grass, I highly recommend ration balancers. All of them are suitable for horses of all ages and work, with the amounts varying based on those aspects. For example, Progressive Grass Balancer - most adult horses would get just 1lb, but a weaner or yearling would get 2-3 because of their significantly higher nutritional needs

Purina Enrich 32, at the amounts recommended on the bag. One scoop, high nutrition

I second that, I'd be EXTREAMLY carefull feeding anything by Nutrena, most of them contain BHA which is know (dispite their claims otherwise) to not only cause cancer in humans but be bad for horses and dogs as well. An preservative definately to be avoided.

    Thanks

the grass hay i get is well fertalized but..

Would you recommend adding Oats, rice bran, bran or beat pulp for any reason? or is the Purina Enrich 32 enough by it's self.

Once the mare has been bred back by the breeder I will be bringing her and the foal to our place for a few months before I wean the foal (then mom goes back to the breeder). I want to make sure I have a good Creep feeder set-up for the filly and make her transistion as easy as possible.

I'm happy about having her and her mom come to my place early. If I could wrap her in bubble wrap I would LOL

...until you test it you really don't know its quality

Remember, the E32 is the nutrition, as well as some calories

If you need more calories, you wouldn't feed more E32. I also would be VERY leery of using whole grains for a weaner. Just too much starch. So, go with soaked alfalfa pellets or soak beet pulp, or some rice bran. The pellets I get are soft enough they can eat them pretty well, but you may find the meal form easier.

I have fed either TC 30% or Pennfield All-phase. I use it as a creep feed on up, If i need extra calories i use alfalfa pellets.
They have done great on both these feeds

My weanling was on E32 and is now on 12% pellets.

Purina's Strategy or Ultium Growth. I've fed Strategy for years with great results. And have my broodmare on Ultium Growth for about a year now, also with great results.
