Unhappy What to do with ugly mane??

Hey

my mare has a ugly mane.I dont no what happened but its ugly. There is a place were it is only 1 inch long(her mare is like 5 inches long).Near the poll its very thin. Its all broken at the bottom and her mane is overall thin. What should I do to it.I was thinking of clipping it off or cuting it like 2 or 3 inches and banding it??Have any sugestions ????And i would still like it to be nice for next year show season.

THanx

In that case, I would go ahead and shave it off. Might as well, since show season is just getting over with. But Im very biased. I LOVE shaved manes.

ooh me too! and no braiding or anything! roached manes are awesome...but i would see if you could grow it out before next show season.its a long time to let hair grow, and my friends bridal path grew out to 5 inches over the winter once, so i think youd have a good chance of getting her hair to grow a bunch

Please do not clip her forelock. You will be sooo unhappy with it, and it'll be a long wait with a stub of hair, waiting for it to grow back in.

Trust me, someone clipped my horse's bridlepath for me and shaved off half his forelock too.

What breed is yr horse?

When you hog the mane you can take the forelock off if you want, but its personal choice. If you horse has a large head leaving the forelock on can make the head look better, but its up to you.

However my experience with hogging a horse’s main is that when they grow back the hair sticks up, sometimes it will grow 4 inches and still stick up on end. And it can be really hard to ‘tame’ again. Once you have hogged it theres no going back so make sure its what you want.

please do not roach your horses mane, just pull the mane to where the shortest point is (you said one inch) and then once it grows out it will look much better and if the new growth is better you can trim off the old... by roaching the mane you could be putting yourself in big trouble, if your horses hair is already fine and in poor shape it probably wont grow back as quickly... meaning next show season you would be left with a short mohawk.
