What to do with nappy clip and upcoming show?

Kara was clipped early January for a handpainting event. I did a really good job on her but she didn't turnout as good as she usually does but it still looks good. Mind you she's been clipped in Jan/Fed for the last 5 years. It's just not pretty and rough and actually just nappy. She has a show the end of this month and she's got to look better than this?! I can't clip again she's got summer coat coming out but man oh man she's just icky looking! Anyone have any thought's suggestions?

Why can't you clip her again? I would. I know some Paints that had the same issues. Just saw one today that was clipped last weekend and looked great!

Don't you think it would effect summer coat?

I would clip her again too! I have friends that do endurance riding, they clip their horses all the time, to keep the coat real short! Their horses all ways look great! Cathy

Clip her again but use different blades, or attach one of the comb attachments to the blade that will leave the hair a bit longer than the orginial clip job did.
Your just clipping to blend and improve the coat appearance so clipping back over the rough spots and taking off just the tip of the "nappy" hair should help.

I would also get some Ultra Hot Oil Treatment and give the coat a treatment before you clip....follow up with some Ultra Conditioning Shampoo...and then see how the coat looks. If it still looks "nappy" then I would clip as I suggested above...and follow up with another hot oil treatment.

Sandra, I have done Ultra's hot oil treatments on her not before though. What attachment do you suggest?

Some clippers come with the plastic combs that snap over the blades that control how much length of the hair is cut.
If you have a clipper that has those then you can use the appropriate one.
If not then I would suggest using a clipper blade that would do the same thing.

I have Andis clippers can't remember the model but it's like an Anniversary addition. I'll look at them in a few I gotta run back out anyway. However they do not have attachements. I'm playing dumb here what's a blade that will do the same thing? I don't think I am sure what your talking about? One that is adjustable?
