What size round pen?

So, we will be looking for a round pen really soon.

All the round pens I've ridden in/been to/seen I have no idea how big they are, so I'm not sure what size I like.

So, do you prefer 40",50", or 60"?

Depends on how much and what work you are going to do in it. I would not want to do alot of work or hard work in a small round pen. Well I wouldn't want to do alot of hard work in any round pen but the small the harder it is on the horse. I personally like 50 or bigger.

I was thinking 60, but somebody suggested 50" to me, so I didn't know. And somebody said they liked 40" for first rides.

I will be doing lots with my filly in in, her first time getting saddled, ridden, ect.

How hard of work though.

If you are going to do things like joining up and the first few rides a bit smaller one is ok. But if you are wanting to ride in it alot. Or do alot of trotting or cantering then the bigger the better.

DON'T get a 40 unless you have a smaller horse, my horse is 14.2 and I prefer the 60!!! Now with my friends 15.2hh horse It's still okay! And at the end of march I would be able to tell you how a 16.2hh horse does in a 60!!! lol But I would get a 60, then you can work most sized horses nicely in it, even for first rides. Then once you get to troting and cantering you can have a smaller place, with room to be able to do this in!
