| Senior Member | What's the trick to fuzzy mini forlocks?? Ok, so I'm looking through all the show pics online, and plan to show my girls this summer BUT..how on earth do they get that forelock to lay so FLAT?? My older mares not as fuzzy/fluffy but the younger one WOW, its like foal hair, it poofs out bad and if I braid it she looks like a unicorn. LOL Is there somthing they are putting in it, like a goop or somthing? Gel maybe? lol Or do you literally just thin it down so there isnt much there?

| Senior Member+ | Trim the fuzz out from underneath it for starters. Wet it then put a skinny hood on to hold it down. You could add a SMALL amount of gel, you don't want it to be stiff as a board. Use a spray or 2 of hairspray to help hold it down in the ring.

| Senior Member | Hmm, ok, I will trim it down underneath. I've just never seen a 4yr old that still had that fuzzy foal hair..lol She has a ton of forelock and a pathetic little tail..lol

| Senior Member | My boys both have a lot of hair, but one I have managed to get under control by thining. I spend about an hour just pulling his mane, I ended up with a hug pile of hair, and since then he has never gotten that much mane back. Good luck! |

| Senior Member | I'm hoping it works with her forelock, thats for sure! Her mane was wild in every direction be after I clipped her halter path (which is longer on a mini) and then banded it, it is now under control. lol I am just amazed i can't find anyone local that would come out and clip her for show for me. I offered to pay even! *sigh* ....

| Senior Member+ | THis is a method I use for any unruley or thick forlock that needs to be "toned" down a bit. On top of the head between the ears you will feel the top most part of the horses skull, its crown. I clip on the poll side of the crown down the poll and as far down the neck as you want. (for My TWH horses I lay down the ear and trim 2 to 3 inches below the ear tip, for my QH horses I lay the ear down and only clip that length, for Huntseat I do about the same thing.) Different length for different diciplines. When I clip just a bridle path I simply clip about 1 1/2 inch space behind the ears for the bridle (hence the name) My freind Faith shows minis and she clips from the poll down about 6 to 8 inches down the neck. Anyways after I clip from the crown down the "bridle" path as much as I want I go to the forehead. From the top of the crown I gather 11/4 inches worth of forelock and put a rubber band in it and keep it back. You can use clips or what ever to keep that part of the forelock out of your way. THe forlock left over is clipped off and nicely shaved underneath blending in hairs. If the forelock is still fuzzy, you can take off more (very little more) or use a frizz freeze product or Infusium 23, braid it flat next to the forehead. If you dont want to braid it you can get one of those lycra head and shoulder sleazy wear covers to help keep mane and forelock tidy. Of course in mini sizes. Do not cut down below the crown on the forelock side. (You will cut underneath it on the forehead side.)
