What month do you like foals to be born in?

Me, I like March/April babies, just because. I guess from the age/size standpoint.

I know of a guy who missed him mare's cycle this month due to a fence injury, but still wants to breed her next month. That'll be a June baby, and it's a little too late for me, just my opinion though.

If he has no issues about futurities and 2-3 yr old classes, then it doesn't matter when they are born.

Well, I know that, BW, but I was just curious as some people like early foals and some could care less. I'm guessing you could care less???

Doesn't matter to me. Earliest foal we've had born was March 30, latest was June 15. I personally wouldn't go any later than June, or any earlier that mid/late March. But that's just my personaly preferences.
Next year we have both mares due in May. One is due May 2 and the other is May 28.

Nope, when I breed, I'll want Jan/Feb babies.

But then, where I am at, we may or may not get a winter.

And I'll be breeding for performance.

The weather really has a lot to do with it, if you are not into the futurities.

Where I am, we don't get a "winter". We have almost no snow, so I really don't care howearly the foals are. But, our summers are terrible, so I really wouldnt go later than june

Prefer Jan/Feb babies for show and health reasons. We dont breed any of our mares after May.

From what I've seen personality-wise (yes, I do believe the theory that their personality/temperament depends on their month of birth), I love april babies. I have had 6 horses all born between April 8th - April 21st. The horse I have now was born the first week of May, and she's awesome. I think April (for this state anyway) is good because it is usually in the 80's and 90's so it isn't deathly hot for the foals and when summer does hit they will adjust to it better than the winter babies.

I think when I start my own breeding/performance operation I will want January/April babies. January babies will compete early, April babies will grow more before showing. :-D I got it all planned out lol.
