Question WHat is your opinion on Farnam Weight Builder.

I have a very thin 17 month old colt, barn owner doesn't feed it, and I was wondering what your opinions are on Farnam Weight Builder. It says to feed 2 scoops daily (4 oz) to increase calorie intake, which then makes them gain weight.

What are you opinions on it and how much do you think I should feed?
Please, I don't want a lecture on bad barn owners and how I need to leave because I am in the process, I merely just want your opinions on Farnam Weight Builder. Would you reccomend it?

I've never had success with it, because all the horses hate it and won't eat it. I believe they make a liquid though, which might be more successful...

I wasn't overly impressed with it either. I think it is mosly ground flax. I would find out why the horse is not being fed... is it medical reasons, money, etc.
I have sneak fed a skinny pony that a woman did not want fed because she thought he would founder. He did not and got fitter looking though still thin, still, I could have been in big trouble if he did founder, but hips showing and ribs sticking out... I couldn't deal with that.
Still, it is not recommended, but I know the feeling.

I personally find it a complete waste. Look at the ingredients -- really, for the price of the small bucket/tub of it, you can buy a couple bags of pellets that'll probably do more.

Also look at the protein level. All in all it doesn't impress me.

I think you can provide far better nutrition with fat/calories for a fraction of the price (and better results) with Beet Pulp, increased hay or pellets, Rice Bran or Rice Bran oil.

AllAroundRdr - He was being given a full scoop of hay pellets and that didn't give him anything more. He just kept dropping weight.

sorrell - The barn owner isn't feeding because she doesn't feel like it and she can't keep her word. As you can probably tell, I have some un-tooken care of feelings that will soon be addressed but thank you for your concern.
