I will try answering the best I can... I believe when he horse isn't being made to do anything. Like riding would not be at Liberty. But a horse galloping on its own, laying down, doing something funny would be at Liberty I hope I helped!

I always thought at liberty meant that the horse has no halter or anything on. So if you're doing round pen work, like join up, if the horse is at liberty that means he is free of any tack and is moving freely.

yes at liberty is when the horse is just doing what it wants... like i liberty lunge my horses all the time i stick in the areana and let them go and and basiclly lunge themselves

You can look at it either way, but generally it's used on conjunction with working the horse without halter/rope.

Liberty can be considered the horse being free - like out in a pasture, or being trained with no halter or bridle. I work my horse on the ground and ride him at liberty a lot.

Oh yea I forgot to mention training at liberty! That's a good point to mention! I am currently teaching Kara to walk beside me. It's fun! She's really good too!
